Helping Kids Create Their Own Websites
"Tell me and I forget. Teach me and I remember. Involve me and I learn."
      -- Benjamin Franklin

Earlier this year, Scott Rogers (TakeThemAMeal.com co-founder) called to tell me about a 12-week, "hands on" programming class for kids that he would be teaching this semester. The class is made up of middle schoolers who are part of a local after school program.

I've been assisting in the class, and what the kids have been able to learn from Scott in such a short window of time is unbelievable. Watching these young people apply their newly learned skills to create their own websites has been rewarding and a fun way to learn about their varied interests.

Coding for the first time, the students have created attractive websites that cover topics like:

  • How to Have a Bake Sale
  • The Many Uses of Nutella
  • Gerbil Care
  • The Wonderful World of Yorkies
  • DIY Crafts

and...

  • Why George Harrison is the Best Beatle

Getting to know this group of kids has been such a treat. I can tell they are very proud of their websites, and I'm grateful Scott accepted the opportunity to teach at the Beyond the Bell program this semester.
